A40 Raglan to Monmouth Resurfacing,
The A40 Raglan to Monmouth resurfacing project involves replacing the old road surface to improve safety and driving conditions, ensuring a smoother and more durable route for motorists.
Background
Following a mini bid competition exercise, ERH Ltd. were awarded this extensive contract scheme, which involved the resurfacing and strengthening of approximately 9.5km of both the east and westbound carriageways between the A40 Raglan Interchange and the Monmouth Tunnels. The project aimed to significantly enhance the road's structural integrity, improve safety, and provide a smoother driving experience for all road users.
To carry out the necessary works, it was crucial to implement a diversionary route of approximately 106 miles, diverting traffic away from the affected area. This diversion allowed for a full road closure along the stretch of the A40 Monmouth to Raglan carriageway, ensuring the safety of both the workers and drivers. The road closure enabled the construction team to carry out the resurfacing and strengthening processes without interruption or risk, while also facilitating the effective management of traffic flows around the project site.
